Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Head of media Frank Mwesigye has clarified that events promoter Norbert Twizere does not hold an official position within the organization, following his arrest and remand to Luzira prison over alleged financial crimes.
Mwesigye made the clarification in a post on X on Tuesday, saying Twizere, also known as Norbert Events, is neither a staff member nor an office bearer of PLU.

Mwesigye said:
“I would like to clarify that Norbert Event is not a staff member of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), nor does he currently hold any position within PLU,”
His remarks followed Twizere’s appearance inn PLU-branded clothing during events surrounding his arrests, which drew attention because of his public association with the political pressure group.

Mwesigye said Twizere’s presence at PLU offices should not be interpreted as evidence that he holds an official position, arguing that the organization receives hundreds of people seeking different forms of engagement.
“At PLU, we receive more than 500people in a single day, and we are unfortunately that many of those who visit are not seeking for financial assistance. They come for different reasons: Some want to be recognized, others want to endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as their next president, while others come seeking guidance on various issues,” he said.

The clarification came a day after Twizere and fellow events promoter Twaha Mujabi appeared before the Makindye Magistrates Court over allegations relating to the management of funds belonging to the Kampala and beyond United Music Promoters SACCO.

The two promoters are accused of mismanaging about Shs. 1billion in government funds and Shs.31.9million in members savings. They were subsequently remanded to Luzira Prison as investigations into the allegations continue. The allegations against the two promoters remain subject to the ongoing court process.

Mwesigye said PLU does not screen everyone who visits its offices based on their political or personal background, comparing the organization’s approach to that of a hospital.
“At PLU, we are like a hospital: we welcome and receive everyone without asking about their religion, tribe, or political affiliation,” he said

He cited the recent Wakiso Baraza, where people he described as being associated with the National Unity Platform (NUP) reportedly attended and endorsed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as an example pf PLU’s open-door approach.
Mwesigye further said Twizere is an elected NRM LC1 chairperson in Makindye and not a PLU official.

“The public should also be aware that Norbert is an elected NRM LC1 Chairperson in Makindye not a PLU official. His visit to the PLU headquarters in Naguru and to the Chairman’s office in Nakasero should therefore not be interpreted as having and connection to the cases before the courts,” he said.

Mwesigye said PLU will continue receiving people seeking guidance, engagement or support for Muhoozi, regardless of their political background.
