Mourners, political supporters and members of the entertainment industry have gathered at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Makerere-Kavule for a farewell vigil in honour of Ugandan comedian Yokana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapere Lufotose.
The vigil comes a day after the comedian's sudden death on Sunday, November 1, 2026, which sparked grief among his family, friends, fellow entertainers and fans across the country.
Kapere rose to prominence through the Amarula Family comedy group, where he performed alongside renowned comedians Allan Mujuni, popularly known as Amooti, and Nicholas Mpiirwe, also known as Messe Bontwe.
He became widely recognized for his distinctive facial expressions, humorous performances and ability to entertain audiences through physical comedy.
Beyond comedy, Kapere also featured in Bobi Wine's popular music video Mr. Money, further increasing his popularity among Ugandans.
His relationship with NUP extended beyond entertainment, as he became an active supporter of the opposition party and maintained close ties with its leadership.
NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, announced his death in an emotional message, describing him as a dear friend, brother and comrade who brought laughter during difficult moments.
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi also expressed sadness over his death, recalling that he had met the comedian at the party headquarters in Kavule just a week before his passing.
According to police, Kapere collapsed while visiting his child at Jolibo Day Care and Junior School in Wakiso District on Sunday. He was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said a postmortem examination would be conducted to establish the actual cause of death.

The comedian is expected to be laid to rest on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 4:00 pm in Kiyunga village, Mukono District.
His death marks a significant loss to Uganda's entertainment industry, where he will be remembered for his unique contribution to comedy and the laughter he brought to many Ugandans.
